LOUISVILLE CHILDRENS MUSEUM
AN INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION FOR A NEW CHILDRENS’ MUSEUM LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN LOUISVILLE ON A SITE JUST NORTH OF THE LOUISVILLE FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY. THE SITE IS A HINGE BETWEEN THE CONSISTENT URBAN FABRIC NORTH OF THE SITE AND THE DRIFT TOWARDS SURFACE PARKING THAT BEGINS SOUTH OF THE LIBRARY. PROGRAMMING IS INCLUSIVE AND COMMUNITY CENTERED. THE SCHEME INCLUDES FIVE FLOORS OF ACTIVITY SPACE, EXHIBITION SPACES AND ‘EVERYWHERE AT ONCE’ EDUCATIONAL SPACES. AUDITORIUMS, CAFE, SHOP, STAFF WORKSPACES, STORAGE AND BELOW GRADE PARKING FOR TWENTY VEHICLES ROUNDS OUT THE USE-PROGRAM.
